Conveyancing Paralegal

Gillian Brand is Qualified Conveyancing Paralegal with Pomphreys, Solicitors in Wishaw. Gillian is based in the Kenilworth Avenue office. We recently caught up and had a chat with Gillian.

How did you end up in this role?

While working as a Legal Secretary in the 1990s, I studied at Strathclyde University and obtained Certificates in the Law Society of Scotland Paralegal Standard and Advanced Courses in Residential Conveyancing. Since then, I have worked as a Conveyancing Paralegal for over thirty years, building up strong relationships with clients and their families, and the excellent brokers who continue to refer clients to me.

What aspects of your job do you find most fulfilling?

I enjoy the whole conveyancing process, but the aspects I find most fulfilling are being able to advise clients that their offers for properties have been successful. Fostering a friendly and professional relationship with clients throughout the purchase or sale process, and guiding them through to the point where keys are handed over once the purchase or sale is settled. I also really enjoy and appreciate it when clients for whom I have acted then recommend their family and friends to me.

Could you describe your day at Pomphreys?

I work mainly from home but with full access to the firm’s file and case management systems. A typical day involves progressing conveyancing with ongoing purchase and sale files, taking instructions from new clients to submit offers. I also update clients on the progress of their transactions and deal with all matters through to the successful conclusion of the purchase or sale transactions.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I enjoy socialising with family and friends, reading, and especially spending time with our dog – a mischievous wee Cavapoo.

What do you appreciate most about working at Pomphreys?

I appreciate the flexibility of working from home, but with the support of colleagues in the office when required.
